Why Your Link in Bio Matters More Than Your Website

6 mins read

Most creators and small businesses do not lose customers on their website. They lose them one step earlier: the single link sitting in their Instagram, TikTok or X bio.

Every social platform gives you exactly one clickable URL in your profile. Your audience on TikTok is not the same as your audience on X, but both land on that one link. If it points to your homepage, most visitors have to hunt for what you actually wanted them to see - a product, a signup, your latest video. Most will not bother.

A bio page fixes this by turning that one link into a small menu: your store, your latest content, your other socials, your contact. Ten seconds to build, and every visitor sees everything.

Numbers from our own platform

We run Shortet, so we see the scale of this firsthand: over 10,900 customers use it to manage their links, and more than 160,000 clicks have been tracked through the platform. The pattern is consistent - accounts that switch from a bare homepage link to an organized bio page stop leaking visitors.

What a good bio page looks like

Keep it short. Three to seven links, ordered by what matters this week. Put your money link first (store, booking, signup), your freshest content second, everything else after. A page with thirty buttons is a page where nobody clicks.

Long URLs with tracking parameters look broken when you paste them into a caption or a WhatsApp message. A clean short link gets clicked; a wall of characters gets skipped. With click statistics you also learn which platform actually sends you people - usually not the one you expect.

You can set up both - the bio page and the short links - free on Shortet: https://shortet.com. A real example of a bio page built with it: https://shortet.com/momo
